An advanced meter means you don’t need to read your meter, as they send data every half hour over a mobile network to your energy company. This type of meter allows for digital, remote meter reads that allow your provider to get an accurate and timely look at your consumption for precise billing.
But don't get confused with smart meters because advanced meters are not devices that sit on your counter or in the back room of your premise and track your consumption and spend in real time.
Advanced meters are being phased out this year. After May 2018, only smart meters are allowed to be installed at smaller business sites. But don't worry you don't need to jump ship straight away, you can still use your current meter until you decide you want to switch.
